Music Profile

Anirban Banerjee was born on 2nd December, 1985 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He has taken initial training from his mother, Mrs. Rina Banerjee who is a well-known vocalist. He was also under the guidance of eminent vocalists, Pandit Santanu Bandyopadhyay, Mrs. Sumitra Chakraborty and Ustad Jainul Abedin for a while.

Anirban started learning music from his mother when he was very young. His first stage performance was also at a very tender age. As far as his academics are concerned, he is an engineer in Biotechnology. He also completed his M.Sc. in Microbiology and Immunology from University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada. Currently, he is a 4th year PhD candidate in Biology at The University of Western Ontario, London, Canada and is pursuing research in the field of Developmental Genetics. During his graduate studies, he has received many awards for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. He has always kept keen interest in Hindustani Classical Music from childhood. He specializes in different genres of Eastern music, namely, Shyama Sangeet, Bhajan, Ghazal and Sufi. Anirban is unique in his vocal renditions because of his natural talents and spiritual inclination.

Anirban has performed and won in various inter-school and inter-college festivals throughout Kolkata. He has also performed in various prestigious programs throughout India, namely, the Indian Classical Music program organized by Ustad Bahadur Khan Music Circle in Kolkata, the cultural program organized by The Indian Army (ECLU) on the occasion of their Raising Day in Kolkata and at Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission Headquarters, Belur Math on the auspicious occasion of the 173rd birthday of Sri Ramakrishna. Anirban has also performed in various programs in Canada organized by different Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Indian and Canadian communities and organizations. He also teaches vocal music in Canada.

An audio CD, ‘Bhajananjali’ has been released from R.P. Techvision in the year 2012. He has performed in various programs on television in India and abroad. He received the 1st prize in the year 2007-08 and 5th prize in the year 2006-07 in the National Level Competition in the field of Bhajan organized by The Dover Lane Music Conference. He has been awarded Pandit Harihar Shukla Memorial Challenge Cup for securing 1st position in Bhajan and Rotu Sen Memorial Challenge Cup for obtaining highest marks in the vocal category by The Dover Lane Music Conference in the year 2007-08. He stood 1st in the State Level Competition in the field of Bhajan in the year 2006-07 organized by ‘Paschim Banga Rajya Sangeet Academy’ (West Bengal State Music Academy), Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Govt. of West Bengal. He also stood 3rd in the field of Bhajan in the same competition in the previous year 2005-06. He has successfully completed a Music Appreciation Course organized by ‘Paschim Banga Rajya Sangeet Academy’ (West Bengal State Music Academy) in the year 2006. He has been awarded the ‘Shilpi Award’ by Lions Club of Calcutta, Victoria Garden in the year 2004.
